Sharings from Chuck Tooman

Augustine of Hippo (born about 354 AD), who would later become known as St. Augustine, was not always a believer in Christ. But no matter where he was living or traveling his mother, Monica, prayed intensely for him to accept Jesus. And he did. At age 33.

Many years later, writing his Confessions and reflecting on a time of serious illness while living in Rome, Augustine said to God, “[My mother], who knew nothing of this, persevered in praying for me; she was far away, but you are present everywhere, so you heard her in that land where she was, and took pity on me where I was.” Precious.

 Parents, take heart.

The next step for Dr. Nichols was to leave his secure position and begin ministering in churches on a faith basis for his finances. God blessed him and within the year brought his four sons back to Christ and continues to provide for him financially. Since then, he has traveled around the world preaching and has been particularly used in the gift of healing.

Science tells us that our universe is continually expanding. How can that be? Well, an Infinite God creates infinitely. To do anything other than that would be contrary to His nature, and one thing God cannot be is contrary to His nature. It is all a part of the mystery and the awesomeness of The Infinite One—our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer.

Psalm 8:1 says it well: O Lord, our Lord! How majestic Your Name through out all the earth [and every where else, for that matter].

Going into the new year we customarily think about things (perhaps even some people?) we’d like to change. Another lesson from Christmas scripture: Mary and Joseph changed the world not by changing other people but by changing themselves. God took it from there.

One of Our Father’s other children, deeply troubled over a relationship, sought many counselors. Many and varied suggestions and approaches later he was still in a painful place.

Finally, physically and spiritually depleted, he began requesting of Our Father’s other children, brothers and sisters, one simple thing: “Pray for me”.  Within a short period of time a gleam of light began to appear and break-through began to happen.

“Pray for me”—the most powerful words we can share with others.

As one of Our Father’s children, I seek to offer good to my brothers and sisters regardless of who they are, where they have been or what they have done. Regretfully, sometimes I miss. Reason: I have allowed doing to precede being.
“Jesus went about doing good”. He was able to do good because he was good, and he was good because his first priority was a genuine relationship with Our Father.
Effective doing is always preceded by genuine being.
